The Reconstructor Engine is now open source. We have released it under the GPLv3. The Engine is the main workhorse that handles all of the modifications and customizations to the distro. Also included in the Engine is a basic graphical user interface. This will allow for selecting a Reconstructor Bundle (you can use projects exported from the web app or via a command line interface), select a source ISO, and other various options. Also included is a chroot terminal for advanced customization.

We are working hard on the Engine documentation (mostly for the GUI; there is contextual help in the command line).

We are also encouraging the community to get involved. We support open source and would like to give our users the opportunity to contribute their ideas and code. If you are interested, please sign up (upper left) and check out the code at http://vcs.lumentica.com/hg . We use the Mercurial version control system so you'll need that or you can download the latest zip or tar.gz archive from "here":/projects/reconstructor/files .

If you have any other questions, please contact us via the "usual":http://www.reconstructor.org/projects/reconstructor/wiki#Support-xx-Help methods.

There has been an intermittent bug with the Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) text only templates. Occasionally they would error and the initial ramdisk would fail. The errors have been fixed and the template has been updated. The text only templates (for both 32 and 64 bit) now work.

We will be performing system maintenance over the next few days. We don't anticipate any service disruption, but please be aware. We are migrating our current application to a new host which will require database as well as DNS updates. We have a large amount of data that also needs to be synchronized between the two. There should be no service interruption until the last part of the migration when we will peform that during low traffic hours.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email or IRC.

Thanks!

The latest updates to Reconstructor include Project Hosting. Project Hosting allows you to make your projects publicly available without having to run your own server or transfer large files to another host. Once you add the hosting service you will get a unique URL that you can publish on your own site. For more information on using project hosting see "here":http://www.reconstructor.org/wiki/reconstructor/UserGuide#Project-Hosting

We have added back the Usplash module. This allows for custom Usplash themes (such as those found from gnome-look.org). The module requires a Usplash theme file (.so). Upload the theme to your project and select it in the module. See "here":http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1337381 for details on creating a Usplash theme.

We have added a new module: Custom Boot Menu. This allows for the customization of the Live CD boot option menu in both Debian and Ubuntu. You can create extra menu items, customize the existing ones, add more boot parameters, etc.

Usage:

To use, add the module to your project then open it. You will be presented with a text box to create the menu. We have the default menus available [[CustomBootMenu|here]] to use as reference for creating the menu.

We are happy to announce the release of Reconstructor 3.1.1.

The biggest enhancement to 3.1.1 is the addition of Reconstructor Services. These allow for third party companies to provide extra services to Reconstructor users. Our first partner is On-disk.com. On-disk.com is a media creation company that can take your completed Reconstructor project and put it on photo quality CD/DVD or SD/Flash media. If you would like to provide a service for Reconstructor, contact us at info@lumentica.com. View the updated "documentation":http://www.reconstructor.org/wiki/reconstructor/UserGuide#Reconstructor-Services for details on using the services in Reconstructor.

Other features include quick tips that display informational tips at the bottom of the application and a new "dashboard" for Reconstructor that has news and site issues.

Other minor enhancements include account management fixes and backend build engine stability fixes.
